About the workplace

Police Region North encompasses Sweden's four northernmost counties, has over 2,000 employees, and consists of four police areas: Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland, and Jämtland. The region also has four regional units: Operational, Investigation, Intelligence Unit, and Regional Administration, which report directly to the regional police chief.

In the operational unit, there is the Border Police Section, which includes five border police groups, one operational group in each police area, and a regional group with regional functions. Approximately 80 employees work in the border police in the region.

We are now looking for an External Commander at the Border Police, based in Sundsvall.

Job Responsibilities

In the role of external commander, you will be responsible for leading the group's employees in external service under the direction of the group leader. Collaboration within the group/section and with other police units as well as external partners is of utmost importance to contribute to the common goals of the Police Authority.

We collaborate with other units within the police such as the Intervention Unit, Regional Command Center, Area Police, Traffic Police Section, and investigation groups at local and regional levels, which provides great opportunities for individual professional development. The Border Police also collaborates with other authorities such as the Migration Agency and the Prison and Probation Service regarding enforcement work, as well as the Tax Agency and the Work Environment Authority in various initiatives within the framework of inter-agency cooperation.

In the role of external commander, you will work with:

  • Planning and leading the daily external operational activities within the group. Common tasks include work against international criminal actors, internal foreigner controls, house searches, border control, workplace inspections, checks in border areas, assistance with enforcement actions, enforcement travels, and other intelligence-based crime prevention and crime-fighting activities.
  • Planning daily operations and initiatives with internal and external partners.
  • You are part of the creative work to develop the operational capability of the Border Police.
  • As an External Commander at the Border Police, you will closely collaborate with the group leader and may, if necessary, be called upon to take responsibility for the group leader.

Travel within the region, elsewhere in the country, and outside Sweden's borders may occur.

Work during inconvenient hours may occur.

Qualifications

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Police degree, in accordance with the Police Ordinance (2014:1104).
  • Border control officer training of 14 weeks or validated for the same.
  • Basic police knowledge in weapons, tactics, and driving (Polkon, PNF step 3 or equivalent).
  • Swedish citizenship.

We consider it an advantage if you also have:

  • Experience in operational leadership within the police.
  • At least 1 year of experience in border police operations in Police Region North.
  • Knowledge of the DC system AKC and RUC.
  • Additional language skills relevant to the Border Police's mission.

In the role of External Commander, you need to have a great deal of humility and flexibility regarding the group's assignments and varying tasks.

  • The External Commander has many points of collaboration both internally and externally, making it important that you can create and maintain relationships. You are aware of the importance of relationships for cooperation and results.
  • Ability to effectively manage the dual role of being both an employee and a leader.
  • Leading operational border police activities is a dynamic job that often involves rapid changes in everyday life, but sometimes also strategic changes for the operation. The External Commander has a very important role in being positive, unpretentious, and inspiring.
  • You have the ability to identify causes of problems, assess situations, and make the right decisions at the right time. You have an interest in development and take personal responsibility to actively seek new knowledge and share what you learn.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities.

Working hours: Weekly planned working hours 5:2, work during inconvenient hours may occur.

Start date: By agreement.
